WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 20, 2022)—The Coalition for Reimagined Mobility, a global initiative of the organization SAFE to advance public policy and implement real-world solutions that transform transportation systems to improve the movement of people and goods, announced today that it has selected Christine Weydig as its next Executive Director.
“I am excited for the opportunity to lead this incredible initiative. The transportation systems we seek to change have not evolved in decades and now we have a convergence of technologies and business models that can harbinger in a new era that puts people first and the task at hand requires a coalition such as ours,” said Christine Weydig. “Our commissioners are already defining the future of mobility across the passenger and freight sectors; I am excited to bring my nearly two decades of government service and implementation experience to the table, and we will begin our work together with a focus on leveraging digitalization and technology to modernize our transportation systems around the world.”
Prior to joining the Coalition, Weydig was the Director of Sustainability at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she led efforts to achieve industry-leading net-zero climate commitments – developing policy and programs to improve resilience and reduce the carbon footprint of the Agency’s four airports, five seaports, bridges, tunnels, rail systems, buildings, and transportation hubs.
Weydig’s career has centered on building public-private partnerships to address the needs of complex energy and transportation systems, placing human wellness and accessibility at the forefront of sustainable transportation and infrastructure development. She has overseen and restructured public-sector energy portfolios to support economic development and worked around the globe for organizations including the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Earth Institute at Columbia University. Weydig will bring these strong relationships and deep experience to the Coalition.
“Christine is extremely qualified to take on this important responsibility and engage a diverse set of stakeholders,” said Mary Nichols, Former Chair, California Resources Board and current commissioner co-chair for the Coalition. “She is an accomplished leader and has done extensive work to bring complex policy concepts to reality for the transportation and energy sectors. Her deep relationships and know-how are an excellent fit to drive the mission of the Coalition forward.”
Weydig will lead the Coalition’s commissioners, a group of industry CEOs, public sector leaders and practitioners across transportation, technology, and sustainability, in setting strategy and building alignment for its mission-driven work to formulate policies and advocate for solutions that reduces oil dependence and carbon emissions, improves air quality, enhances infrastructure resiliency and security, and creates economic opportunity and access to transportation systems using new technology and business models.
“Christine’s decades of wide-ranging experience working in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will build on the Coalition’s groundbreaking analysis and drive forward its aim of a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable transportation sector, said Robbie Diamond, Founder, President and CEO of SAFE, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that enhances energy security and supports economic resurgence and resiliency by advancing transformative transportation and mobility technologies. “This work requires engagement with local, national, and global entities: Christine has the experience and the political acumen to drive big, bold changes across global transportation systems.”
