Washington, D.C.— Today, the Coalition for Reimagined Mobility (ReMo) joined with several leading organizations to send a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy encouraging the agency to champion policies that promote American leadership in the autonomous vehicle (AV) sector.
Specifically, the letter, led by The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® and so-signed by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, American Trucking Associations, Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International, Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association, Blinded Veterans Association, Chamber of Progress, SAFE’s Coalition for Reimagined Mobility, Intelligent Transportation Society of America, National Federation of the Blind, NetChoice, TechNet, United Spinal Association, and Zero Emission Transportation Association, promotes:
Urgent Call for USDOT Action: The letter urges the U.S. Department of Transportation to champion policies that promote American leadership in the autonomous vehicle sector.
Benefits of Autonomous Vehicles: Highlight the widespread and safe deployment of AVs, which can improve public safety, lower healthcare costs, enhance mobility for elderly and disabled Americans, bolster the supply chain, reduce emissions, and strengthen the economy.
Federal Government’s Role: Emphasize the crucial role of the Federal government in ensuring a safe and accessible future for AVs, and the need for smart and innovative policies to maintain U.S. leadership in this sector.
Risk of Losing Leadership to China: Stress the importance of acting now to avoid ceding leadership in the AV industry to China.
Specific Policy Recommendations: Outline the specific actions recommended, such as advancing an AV safety framework, asserting federal authority, modernizing safety regulations, authorizing innovative warning technologies, and clarifying interpretations to ensure industry certainty.
