Washington, D.C.— In response to news of the passing of Dr. Jerry Cohon, SAFE’s Founder, President and CEO Robbie Diamond issued the following statement:
“It is with deep sorrow this morning that I received the news of Dr. Jerry Cohon passing. In addition to his leadership as the president emeritus of Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Cohon provided SAFE and our Coalition for Reimagined Mobility with valuable perspective and guidance since its inception. Dr. Cohon’s dedication, vision, and commitment left an indelible mark on the communities he helped shape, and ReMo was fortunate to be one of these communities.
He was always generous with his time and open to every perspective. He helped turn CMU into a powerhouse of the United States creating one of the premier institutions that was revered in disciplines from engineering and science to arts and culture. Most importantly, he was humble about his accomplishments and in every conversation he would just say “call me Jerry.” In addition, his love for Pittsburgh was always front and center.
During his tenure at CMU, Dr. Cohon’s unwavering commitment to advancing education, fostering innovation, and promoting collaboration propelled the university to new heights of achievement and recognition worldwide. His passion for academic excellence and his profound impact on countless lives will be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege to work alongside him. We hope that his memory and legacy will be a guide for the efforts of many others in the way it will continue shape the efforts of me and the ReMo team.”
