Washington, DC—In response to the passage of AB 316, which would block deployment of driverless trucks in California, Avery Ash, Executive Director of the Coalition for Reimagined Mobility (ReMo) issued the following statement:

“Autonomous trucks will make our supply chains more efficient and resilient while improving road safety and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. With pressing transportation challenges and in a battle with China, we can’t afford more self-inflicted wounds, and AB 316 will incapacitate California’s and ultimately the nation’s competitiveness for decades to come. We urge Governor Newsom to veto this bill.”

AB 316 comes as the country is facing a road safety crisis, surging demand for petroleum fuels, and international competition on the development of shared autonomous vehicles and the technologies that will define the transportation systems of the next century.
